CPL Week 1: Inaugural Game Ends in Draw

HAMILTON, ON. May 4 – The Canadian Premier League kicked off its inaugural season with its first game in history ending as a draw between Forge FC and York 9 FC.

There were many firsts in this match, with York9 FC striker Ryan Telfer scoring just 3 minutes into the game to notch the first goal in CPL history… a goal that woke up the home side. York 9 celebrations were afterwards cut short in the second half, after substitute Kadell Thomas became a force for Forge FC and ripped one home to break the tie and knot the game at one. The two will meet once again in the 905 Derby on May 25.

Meanwhile, both Cavalry FC and HFX Wanderers were each able to celebrate winning in their very first games at home. The Cavs were able to edge by York9 by a score 2:1, with HFX ending their game by the same result against visiting Forge.
