WINNIPEG, Manitoba. June 6 – The Canadian Premier League (CPL) today announced the founding of Valour FC, one of the founding clubs set to play in Canada’s new professional men’s soccer league in the spring of 2019.
The new soccer club will play out of Investors Group Field, which will feature a FIFA-standard turf pitch for all Valour FC home games.
“We are thrilled to bring back professional soccer to this province,” said Wade Miller, President & CEO of the Winnipeg Football Club. “We’ve seen over the last few years the appetite for soccer in Manitoba, this is the world’s game, and this is our opportunity to make it our own in Winnipeg.”
Valour FC will play against CPL rivals HFX Wanderers, York 9 FC, and Cavalry FC, along with several other founding clubs to be announced in the coming weeks.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Valour FC and all supporters in Manitoba to the Canadian Premier League,” said David Clanachan, Commissioner of the Canadian Premier League.
“Winnipeg boasts one of Canada’s top sports communities. It’s going to be amazing to see the community rally around the club and elevate soccer it the region for generations to come.”
Update: Rob Gale will be the head coach of Valour FC in its inaugural season.
