WHISTLER, British Columbia. May 6 (T90) – In a statement today, Canada Soccer has confirmed membership of the Canadian Premier League, as well as founding cities Hamilton and Winnipeg.
The proposed Canadian Premier League (CPL) is a Tier 1 FIFA sanctioned soccer league, with intentions to partner with strong community lead owner/operator groups in cities from coast to coast.
“This was an important day for our sport with the unaminous approval of the Canadian Premier League along with Hamilton and Winnipeg as new members of the Association and the overwhelming support for the 2026 FIFA World Cup joint bid with USA and Mexico.” said Steve Reed, President-elect, Canada Soccer.
“I look forward to serving the Membership and building on the legacy of Victor Montagliani’s leadership of the past five years.”
The CPL has already received expressions of interest from 10 Canadian cities and will be assessing bids over the next 60-90 days.
The full press release can be found on the official CSA website.
